For Students & Parents

General Admissions Requirements: Declaration of Finances

You must have adequate financial support to live and study abroad. Visa applications are more likely to be approved if the financial support comes from family, employers, or other institutional sponsors located in your home country.

If your parents are paying for your education, be ready to document how your family receives income. Bring a letter from your parents' employers stating what they do, how long they have worked at those organizations, and how much they earn.

All visa applicants should be prepared to provide financial evidence that shows you or your parents have sufficient funds to cover your tuition and living expenses during the period of intended study. For example, a salaried employee would bring income tax documents and original bank books and/or statements. If you or your sponsor owns a business, please bring business registration, licenses, tax documents, as well as original bank books and/or statements.

Large sums of money in bank accounts may not be sufficient proof of financial support. When providing information about your bank account, ask your bank for a letter stating how long the account has existed, and what the average balance is. This information assists the visa officer at the consulate. It shows that you and your family have a long and stable history of business at the bank.
